While the whole world is waiting for the upcoming extraction shooter, PUBG’s free update expands the experience of the existing game in view of winter. Named Erangel: Subzero, it enriches the gameplay with additional challenges, putting players in unforgiving weather conditions. But this frost has nothing natural. It all started when some Tythonic Satellites crashed down on the island, releasing a cryogenic gas. It has soon embraced all the territory, freezing everything in sight. Survival has become an (almost) impossible task, and even old timers will find it difficult to become victorious.
PUBG’s Free Update: All New Content Explained
Changes concern the first and the most iconic map of PUBG – Erangel. The whole environment was modified, and we can see some ruined structures under the snow, shattered by the satellites. But beyond the visuals, there are certain gameplay tweaks. The Blue Zone now has a freezing effect, and the vision might be decreased due to the snowfall, blizzards, and even a full whiteout. The terrain itself has changed, making it more difficult to pass by slippery, icy rivers or snowdrifts. This has created new combat situations, where players have to confront each other in unpredictable conditions. By the way, developers estimated that the level of difficulty was already elevated, so they disabled the Red Zones on this map.
But more than that, PUBG’s free update came with a new weapon: a powerful BZ Grenade Launcher that can be used only in Erangel: Subzero. It can be found anywhere in the world, including secret rooms. This is a great addition to the player’s arsenal, as it can throw Blue Zone grenades at a long distance, forcing enemies to leave their ambush site or even abandon the vehicle. Using this weapon adds another strategic layer to the main game, which will require quick thinking and fast reflexes from all players on the battlefield.
