Team Ninja isn’t taking its foot off the gas. Following its successful launch this February, Nioh 3 has seen a steady stream of refinements and the latest patch 1.04 is more than just a quick bug fix. Patch is over 1GB, this update brings a healthy mix of free gear, multiplayer overhauls and the kind of combat “feel” adjustments that veterans of the series will immediately notice.
A “Thunderous” reward for 1 million slayers
The big news here is a gift for the community. After Nioh 3 hit the one million copies sold milestone, Team Ninja promised a reward and they’ve delivered with the Thunderous armor set.
Whether you’re leaning into a high-dexterity Ninja build or a heavy-hitting Samurai, the patch adds two distinct versions of the set to your inventory. It’s a nice aesthetic and mechanical bonus that doesn’t force you back into the grind—just log in, gear up and get back to the fight.
Finally, co-op feels worth the effort
If you’ve spent any time in the multiplayer trenches, you’ll appreciate the shift in rewards. Glory gains have been boosted significantly across the board. It doesn’t matter if you’re the host or the visitor; the payout for finishing a mission is now much more respectful of your time.

Perhaps more importantly, the AI helpers from Benevolent Graves have finally gone to “combat school.” Previously, bosses would target the player with tunnel vision, leaving the AI companion to wander aimlessly into area attacks. With 1.04, boss aggro is more balanced. Your AI partner will actually draw fire and contribute meaningfully, making those solo-plus-bot runs far less frustrating.
Sharper combat and “Quality of Life” tweaks
The update also polishes some of the game’s rougher edges:
- Height Logic: Ninjutsu and Onmyo Magic now track better. You won’t see your spells sailing harmlessly over an enemy’s head just because they were standing on a slightly different elevation.
- Aerial Agility: You can now chain quick or strong attacks immediately after a jump. This removes that clunky “landing lag” and opens up a whole new layer of vertical combos.
- Inventory Management: Sudama Soul Cores now go straight to your item box after the first one, and limits on forging materials have been raised. It’s small stuff, but it keeps you in the action longer.

Balance tweaks and bug fixes
Team Ninja also took the opportunity to tweak the numbers on Samurai dual swords, the Odachi and various Ninja-specific tools. While not a total meta-shift, these adjustments aim for a more level playing field as players head into the endgame.
Patch 1.04 proves that Nioh 3 is an evolving project. For a game defined by razor-thin margins and punishing difficulty, these “quality of life” fixes are exactly what’s needed to turn a potential rage-quit into a satisfying victory.
I write for Need4Games, mostly keeping track of what’s coming next. I cover showcases and release updates, put together quick lists when you just want the highlights, and I’ll post Steam deal roundups when the sales get wild. I play a lot of games, so I tend to look at games through that lens. No overthinking, just: what it is, why it’s interesting, and if it’s actually worth your time. I also stream now and then on Twitch.
