Naturally, you’re wondering if you can get it for less. Let’s go through what you get, how the editions differ, what you need on PC and what to look at when you buy a key.

In short:

  • Release date: October 23, 2026
  • Platforms: PC (Steam, Battle.net, Xbox on PC), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
  • Developer: Infinity Ward
  • PC editions: Standard ($69.99) and Vault ($99.99)
  • Early campaign access: October 16, with the digital pre-order

What Modern Warfare 4 is about

The game comes from Infinity Ward and picks up the story after Modern Warfare III from 2023. Everything starts on the Korean Peninsula, where North Korea launches a massive invasion of South Korea.

In the campaign you play as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier heading into combat for the first time. Captain Price is back, leading an alliance that works on its own, far from Task Force 141.

The campaign has 13 missions across three acts. Besides the Korean front, you’ll also visit New York, Paris and Mumbai.

On the multiplayer side, Infinity Ward is putting the spotlight on the Ballistic Authority system. The idea is more precise aiming, weapons that feel more realistic and sound that actually helps you in a fight.

At launch you get 12 core 6v6 maps, Gunfight maps, Big War maps with vehicles and the Kill Block arena. DMZ is back too, as the third main mode.

One thing to keep in mind: the game is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One and it is not on Game Pass at launch. If you want to play it, you’ll have to buy it.

What’s new in gameplay

Movement is smoother. You can go straight from a mantle into a slide, climb pipes up the sides of buildings and chain sprinting, sliding and going prone. There’s also a training course so you get the hang of it quickly.

Weapon bloom is gone, which is good news. When you hip-fire, the bullet goes where you aim, although recoil and movement still matter.

In Create-a-Class, operators and killstreaks now go straight into your loadout. Gunny builds a short-range, balanced or long-range setup for you if you don’t want to spend time on attachments. Apex attachments unlock when you max out a weapon and change how it plays.

The new modes are the most fun part. In Inflation you earn cash for eliminations but lose some when you die. In Collateral, a one-life 5v5, you buy your weapons with the cash you earn during the match.

You’ll also find Hijack, Frontline, Gunfight 10v10 and Combat Outpost for Ground War. Kill Block comes with over 500 layouts.

The beta only had 6 of the 12 maps, so half of them are new to everyone.

DMZ and Warzone

DMZ returns as an extraction mode on the Hajin map. It’s an exclusion zone with 13 large points of interest, including an air base and a nuclear power plant. It has its own progression up to level 70.

You leave the map by helicopter, Fulton balloons or flare signals. Hajin is also coming to Warzone as a Battle Royale map in Season 1, but the date hasn’t been announced yet.

Also, mastery camo progress carries over between Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone, so you lose nothing when you switch modes.

How much it costs at the official price

On PC you have two digital editions. Standard costs $69.99 and Vault costs $99.99. Vault is digital only.

If you already picked up Standard and change your mind, you can upgrade to Vault for about $30.

Pre-ordering digitally gets you into the campaign from October 16 and into DMZ from October 20. You also get the Hunter Killer skin and the Gilded Pearl camo pack.

Vault adds the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces operator packs, the Signature Weapon collection, a BlackCell season for Season 1 and a DMZ deployment bonus.

There’s also a 10% discount on Vault if you’ve played one of the eligible titles, from Modern Warfare (2019) through Black Ops 7. It only works in official stores, until October 23, and it doesn’t apply to the upgrade.

What you need on PC

The game launches on Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC. You need TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled, plus an SSD with about 115 GB free. 64-bit Windows 10 is the minimum.

On top of that, you get over 800 customization options and an extended field of view, available only on PC. It doesn’t run directly on Steam Deck because of the anti-cheat.

Preloading started on October 15 for digital pre-order buyers. You’ll find the full specs on the official Activision support page.

What to look at when you buy a key

The official price isn’t your only option. Digital key stores have different prices, and they change from one day to the next.

For Modern Warfare 4, the keys available are Xbox keys for Windows and Xbox Series X|S, not Steam keys. You redeem them on your Xbox account and play on PC or on an Xbox console.

Check the edition carefully. Standard, Vault, the Vault upgrade and pre-purchase offers show up as separate products, so read the title closely.

Check the bonuses too. Offer descriptions say that pre-order bonuses may be missing, and keys are delivered at launch, on October 23. So don’t count on the October 16 early access.

Finally, check the region and the seller. Read the region restrictions on the offer page and glance at the seller’s rating before you pay.

Where to find the cheapest key

From the comparisons we’ve made, the lowest prices for Modern Warfare 4 are currently on the offers for the Standard Edition key and the Vault Edition key. Prices change daily, so you only see the best deal when you buy.

If you want early access and all the pre-order bonuses, go with the official stores. If price matters more to you, compare the offer with the official one and keep in mind what we covered above. Have fun!
