Ballad of Antara is likely to be cancelled

It’s been a year and a half since the release of the first trailer for “Ballad of Antara”, the second AAA game from Infold Games, initially presented during a State of Play event at Playstation. The game piqued the curiosity of many people, being a completely Free to Play soulslike with an emphasis on Open World, something newer in this genre.

Months have passed, and Ballad of Antara has crossed the threshold of being released in 2025, as originally thought. In this report, we will bring you some bad news about the title, which was ultimately canceled.

We start with the first rumor, which started with Twitter/X insider Lunatic Ignus, who said in a post on September 2, 2025, that Ballad of Antara has undergone a major restructuring, saying that the studio has reduced its workforce from 120 to 20, a funny coincidence with the report we had last week with “Mudang: Two Hearts”.

It should be noted that the main sources are Game Grape and Jinghe, some pretty popular outlets on Baidu.

At the time, the sources said this:

“The reason being that the game only managed to have a single playable chapter from 2021 to 2024. Several developers mentioned that a lot of content had to be reworked. Paper Games only gave them 6 months to adjust the project, if they fail, other restructurings will be made.”

Ignus added a comment saying:

“From what I understand, the game will now be a full premium title with AAA pricing, not F2P anymore and the team will be expanded as the project progresses.”

Just a few months later, on January 7th, 2026, a Twitter/X user named Yuehai2000 posted some concept art for this game. And another user in the comment asked what game it was.

The artist soon stated that it was a cancelled game called Ballad of Antara, which fits perfectly with the reports we’ve had recently. Unfortunately, Yuehai2000’s account has been deleted, and our team was unable to take a screenshot before, and the Wayback Machine didn’t record anything.

It’s really interesting that so many games with potential are cancelled year after year, do you really think this game deserved a second chance?
