When you first see No Law, it might feel like just another gritty, cyberpunk FPS. This single-player shooter is being developed by Neon Giant the small Swedish studio behind The Ascent, and with only 24 people on the team, it’s ambitious in every sense.
Welcome to Port Desire
Players step into the shoes of Grey Harker, an ex-military veteran trying to escape his violent past. His dream of a quiet life quickly falls apart, forcing him to rely on his black ops training and cybernetic enhancements to survive. All of this unfolds in Port Desire a city where the streets are slick with neon lights and chaos rules—laws exist in theory, but murder is still frowned upon.
Neon Giant describes the city as “a world built on neon sleaze instead of regulation.” Every decision players make ripples through the story. Whether you prefer stealth, guns blazing, or tactical problem-solving, your choices shape Harker’s journey in a tangible way.
Cyber-Noire with a Twist
The team calls No Law “cyber-noire”, blending immersive sim elements with a story-driven focus. The game getting similar to classics like Deus Ex and Cyberpunk 2077, but the studio is aiming for its own flavor.
“We love Deus Ex, especially the original,” says creative director Arcade Berg. “But we wanted to do something fresh. The world responds to your actions, and the story unfolds differently depending on how you play.”
Co-director Tor Frick adds that the game is flexible for different player styles. “You can go through it like a straight-up shooter, or dive deep into stealth, abilities, and strategic choices. The narrative adapts to your approach, so it’s never the same twice.”

Fun, Violence, and Humanity
Unlike some dark cyberpunk worlds, No Law isn’t trying to be grim for the sake of it. Berg explains they’re aiming for a mix of spectacle and human emotion. Think films like RoboCop or Judge Dredd: violent, flashy, but fun, at the same time, the team looks to Studio Ghibli for inspiration, wanting moments of calm, human connection amid the chaos. The result is a world where extremes coexist—neon brutality meets quiet humanity.
Looking Ahead
No Law is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC though there’s no release date yet. With its branching story, reactive world, and multiple ways to tackle challenges, it promises to be more than just a shooter. As Neon Giant’s managing director Claës af Burén puts it: “No Law is bigger, more reactive, and more personal than anything we’ve done before.”
