EXCLUSIVE: Why Faith of Danschant: Hereafter was cancelled?

Last updated on March 16, 2026

Some time ago, we did an article based on the disappearance of the game “Faith of Danschant: Hereafter”, which disappeared out of nowhere. In that article, we mentioned that the game was canceled, which is true, but today, we learned some new information from various sources about what really happened to this anticipated title from China.

First of all, from what we discussed with our sources, Faith of Danschant was planned as a trilogy by “Wangyuan Shengtang”, the parent company, but after the release of the first project Faith of Danschant in 2017, sales were very poor, however, the parent company ordered a sequel shortly after.

Although the sequel attracted more interest from fans and people unfamiliar with the series, after the acquisition by Tencent, they were ordered to put all their resources into another game, which was “Swords of Legends”, also known as “Gujian 4”.

The Joyfun team was dissolved, and the remaining people were moved to Aurogon Shanghai.

Another proof that this project was canceled is that the game producer, which we talked about earlier, announced his new career at a new AAA game company in Taiwan.

Unfortunately, we don’t know many details about this company, but Rex Chao mentioned that he is working on an unannounced project in Unreal Engine 5.

We tried to contact Rex and other former Joyfun employees, but so far, we haven’t received any new answers.
